The new Terminal 2 of the Puerto Vallarta International Airport embodies a vision of innovation, sustainability, and environmental responsiveness. Designed to achieve energy self-sufficiency, it will generate 100% of the energy it requires throughout its lifespan, thanks to a solar-panel-covered roof that functions as a large-scale energy collector.
Its structure, inspired by the shape of a jack (matatena), provides stability in the region’s seismic conditions while allowing for expansive open spaces. This design not only ensures functionality and safety but also integrates passive systems for rainwater harvesting, recovery, and reuse—critical in a region like Puerto Vallarta with high rainfall.
To minimize impact on the natural surroundings, the terminal is organized on two levels: ground level for arrivals and upper level for departures. This configuration optimizes passenger flow, enhancing operational efficiency and user experience.
